Adventures in grocery shopping
Our grocery store of choice today was the No Frills at Dixie, which is a good, cheap grocery store. All the PC products I like, decent produce and a dollar-store section. We toured the dollar store section and I told Rachel she could pick out one toy. After much deliberation, we opted for the "little girl with horsey," which won out over the fairy. So Rachel played with the little girl and her horse for the remainder of the shopping excursion.
Everything was fine and dandy (including a wonderful FAME dancing distraction (with sea salt maraca) down the spice aisle), until The Checkout. As the checkout lady scanned the "little girl with horsey," screams of "I want the FAIRY!" emerged from Rachel's mouth. They grew louder and louder until most of the customers in the other aisles were *pointedly* not looking at us. Ah yes, life with a two-year-old. Since we are having a big backyard bash this weekend, the grocery bill was enormous, so we were lucky enough to endure the screaming for what seemed like an hour, but was probably more like 10 minutes.
It was so bad at the end, that I actually left my No Frills cart with the quarter still inside (a big deal, considering it's my grocery shopping quarter I keep in my side door at all times). She continued to scream until we passed the 427 - fun fun fun fun fun. Lol. So this is life with a two-year-old??

Another way to waste time online...
Well, here I am. I've found another way to waste time online. My excuse, however, is that this will force me to record all those wacky and wonderful things my kids do everyday that I will doubtless forget over the months. We have two little girls, so of course pink is the colour of choice for almost everything. Jessica is 4 1/2 and Rachel is 2 1/2. They are angels or devils, but usually sit somewhere in the middle.
Today, after dropping Jessica off at her half-day summer camp, Rachel and I went to spend my $30 gift certificate at Winners (thanks Dave & Katie). Armed with three tops and four dresses, Rachel and I headed over to the kids' section to pick her out a dress to try on. After much deliberation and some "No Mommy, I want that one!" we picked out a pink dress-stavaganza. As she pranced around the dressing room in her pink meringue dress, she kept looking up at me and saying "I'm like Cinderalla!" Then she would twirl around while humming to herself, only to stop once more to announce that she was "beauuuuutiful." Adorned across the front of the dress were dozens of little "pearls," which Rachel commented on by saying "Look Mommy. I have earrings on my dress."
This little display was so adorable and allowed me to actually pick out something to spend my birthday $$ on. All was well until it was time to take off the dress. And no, we can't always have everything we want. And yes, we must take off the dress now. But everything in the universe is solved by a chocolate chip and marshmallow granola bar.
